Henrik Stenson played one heck of a final round at the British Open Sunday and has won his first ever major. After shooting 12 under over the first three rounds, he came out and shot eight under in the fourth and final round. It was a round to remember and it wasn’t just because of how he played. Phil Mickelson played out of his mind, shooting six under, but it just wasn’t enough.
Stenson would win the British Open with a final score of 20 under, while Mickelson ended 17 under. Astonishingly, these two played so great that the third place finisher, J.B. Holmes, ended 11 strokes back of Mickelson!
We are so excited to see Stenson accomplish this major feat, but it is heart breaking to hear that Mickelson’s 17 under would have won 140 of the 144 British Open tournaments that have been played! Now that is a crazy fact.
