Today is International Women’s Day, and 2022’s campaign theme is #BreaktheBias. This day, annually, celebrates the global “social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women,” according to the International Women’s Day website, while also calling for action to advance gender equality.
To #BreaktheBias, men, women, and non-binary folks are standing in solidarity to speak out against individual and collective biases against women that fuel gender inequality. Supporters of International Women’s Day and gender equality can show their dedication to the cause by posting selfies to social media posing with their arms crossed along with the hashtags #BreaktheBias and #IWD2022.
“Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead,” the International Women’s Day website reads. “Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field.”
So, in addition to sporting the color purple, participating in digital and in-person social gatherings, festivals, art exhibitions, or award ceremonies, perhaps post a selfie and stand up with women around the world to make change!
