Gregg Allman is not well, cancelling the remainder of his summer tour. Gregg and his troupe had been working through a fairly intense multi-state tour when he took ill, admitting himself a few days ago to the Mayo Clinic.
Gregg Allman was born in Nashville in 1947, brother to guitar virtuoso Duane Allman. The two began putting garage bands together in Daytona Beach, as the family had moved in the late 50s.
Eventually The Allman Brothers would conquer the rock world in the late 60s and early 70s, only to beset by the tragic deaths of Duane and fellow band member Berry Oakley – both deaths at the hand of motorcycle accidents. It’s amazing to believe Gregg is still alive actually, given his well-documented battles with addition and brief marriage to Cher.
Live shows from mid-August till at least the end of October are affected by the sudden news, yet there is hope the band can pick up where they left off as it has been penciled in that they will return October 29th for his ‘Laid Back Tour’ in Atlanta. If that date goes well they intend on completing 10 shows in New York City at the Winery starting November 6th.
