Green Day Claims Classic Rock Mantle in Austin

According to ultimateclassicrock.com, Green Day embraced their legacy status during their performance at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas on October 21st, starting off a star studded Formula One Race weekend. The final performance of the band’s two year long global campaign, featured no songs that were newer then 2009.

Fans ate up their performance, as they played classic hits such as “Longview” and “Basket Case” off of 1994’s Dookie. Armstrong’s sense of humor and anti-authoritarian attitude haven’t dulled one bit with him stating, “This is our last show for a long time. We saved our best for the best state in the United States: Texas! I’m not just gonna kiss your ass, but Texas is the greatest state in the whole damn world.” He waited for a beat for the applause to subside, and then, “Just ask Ted Cruz.”

During his performance, 50 year old Armstrong sprinted and leaped across the stage, illuminating the crowd during “Holiday” with a handheld spotlight. He also indulged in an extended harmonica solo for “Minority,” and a slurred rendition of Insomniac single, “Brain Stew” and turned Nimrod’s “King for a Day” into a ska-glam track. Even giving a cover of Kiss’ “Rock and Roll All Nite” with a crowd singalong and a guitar solo from Armstrong. The show proved that they are still a rock staple in 2022.
