Grease Turns 40, Comes Back the Theaters For Brief Run

What do you get when you combine actor John Travolta, singer Olivia Newton-John, and a late 50s musical script together? You give birth to one of the most surprising hit movies of all time, the film ‘Grease…’

Grease is 40 years old this year, a few stars have died, a few scandalized, others have moved on. But, for one shiny moment, you can travel back in time. Beginning Sunday, April 8th, Grease will be shown over 700 locations nationwide for a brief run. Grease fans will also be able to purchase a special 40th-anniversary edition DVD and Blu-ray release, dropping this April 24.

Grease opened in June of 1978; critics hated it, fans loved it. The film quickly became a cult movie, eventually eclipsing ‘The Sound of Music’ in overall ticket sales. Grease is currently the second highest grossing musical of all time.
