Google has been promoting its Artificial Intelligence (AI) efforts for years, but something about the mainstream attention ChatGPT has been getting, combined with Microsoft’s interest in the technology, seems to have lit a fire underneath the search giant.
As The Verge reports, Google is now holding an event about search and AI on February 8th. And CEO Sundar Pichai’s recent comments really make it sound sound as though Google will soon let people interact with its AI technology in a way that’s very similar to ChatGPT.
According to Times of India, Pichai revealed the company’s plans for launching a ChatGPT rival during its Q4 earnings call, and the CEO confirmed that Google has been preparing its artificial intelligence chatbot since early 2022. The “big plans” are expected to be revealed over the next few months.
Pichai has also stated that Google’s AI will allow users to “interact directly” with its “newest, most powerful language models as a companion to search.” One of the first tools expected to be rolled out to the public will be Google’s AI Chatbot LaMDA. This tool has previously been restricted to Google’s engineers and beta testers.
Now, a new report by The Verge says that the company has announced a search and AI event which they’re calling, “Google Presents: Live from Paris,” scheduled for February 8. At this event, Google is likely to launch its own AI chatbot that will take on ChatGPT. On YouTube, the event description states that Google is “reimagining how people search for, explore, and interact with information,” and that the company is planning to make the process “more natural and intuitive than ever before” to find what users need.
If you would like to hear Google discuss giving the public “greater access to information for people everywhere, through Search, Maps, and beyond, “ the 40-minute event is set to be live-streamed on YouTube on February 8 at 8:30AM ET.
