Giving Thanks for Rock and Roll

Thanksgiving is here, so let’s gather around the dinner table and enjoy the awkward times with family members we don’t always see every day. We are thankful for the time we get to spend with our family, even if it can be a little awkward at times. Here are other things we are thankful for this time of year…

We’re thankful the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame finally let in Chicago, Steve Miller, Cheap Trick and Deep Purple. Now let’s cross our fingers for the Doobie Brothers, Moody Blues, Tina Turner and Pat Benatar.

We’re thankful for the music of Glenn Frey, David Bowie, Lemmy, Keith Emerson, Leonard Cohen, Prince, and Leon Russell. We’re thankful George Martin molded the Beatles, and thankful that Robert Stigwood gave us the Bee Gees.

We’re thankful that Kiss decided to paint their faces, that Kurt Cobain lived as long as he did. We’re also thankful Elvis wasn’t a truck driver, or that Murray Wilson had lots of sons.

Finally, we’re thankful for Peter Green and Bob Welch leaving Fleetwood Mac when they did, or we would probably not have all that great Fleetwood Mac music we do now. We’re thankful that we live in a country that nourished the careers of Duane and Gregg Allman, and grateful that Tom Petty, Steven Tyler, and Bruce Springsteen walked away from their day jobs.

We’re also thankful for ‘Stairway,’ but that goes without saying.
