Get Ready for Holiday Visitors

As much as you love your friends and family (or even if you’re just putting up with them for the duration), if you plan to entertain guests this holiday season, you’d best get your home spruced up, now.

Launder and change out sheets and towels.  Dust off surfaces in regularly unused rooms.  Stock up on necessary supplies and toiletries for your guest bathroom.  If you’ve got nosy guests who just love to snoop, you might want to check drawers and cabinets and stash your, well, anything that might cause an awkward conversation at the dinner table.  And if you plan on any formal or fancy dinners, you’d best wash your china and polish any silver you plan to use.

If small children are on the horizon, baby proofing is in order.  If you don’t know the first thing about what to look for, there are dozens of handy videos on Youtube, or heck, call the parents and ask them to help you.  They’ll probably appreciate that you even thought of it.

Break out your holiday decorations early, toss any broken ornaments or trinkets, and inspect or purchase holiday lights. And while you’re feeling productive, get ready for winter’s onslaught: Stock up on cold weather essentials such as salt or ice melt, snow scrapers and shovels, and firewood so you (and your guests) won’t be caught unaware during the first big snowstorm.

If all this seems completely overwhelming, you can always call professional reinforcements, like a cleaning company, maid service or handyman to help with the bigger tasks so you’ll be ready before the onslaught.
