George Clooney isn’t taking Quentin Tarantino’s recent comments about his career lightly. In a recent GQ interview with his Wolfs co-star Brad Pitt, Clooney addressed Tarantino’s dismissive remarks about his status as a movie star, revealing that he’s still irked by the acclaimed director’s critique.
“Quentin said some s— about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney shared. “He did an interview where he was talking about movie stars like Brad [Pitt] and Leonardo [DiCaprio], and then the interviewer asked about me. Quentin just said, ‘He’s not a movie star.’”
Clooney continued, “He even went on to challenge my filmography, asking, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’ I was like, ‘Since the millennium? That’s my whole f—ing career.’”
The tension seems to stem from Tarantino’s conversation with Deadline columnist Baz Bamigboye last July, where Tarantino questioned Clooney’s ability to draw audiences in recent years, dismissing his post-2000s work.
Despite Tarantino’s comments, Clooney has enjoyed significant success in the 21st century with hits like the Ocean’s trilogy, Syriana, and Up in the Air, among others. Reflecting on his career, Clooney remarked, “Director and screenplay are what keep you alive. I learned that after doing some really bad films—you can’t make a good film out of a bad script.”
While Pitt laughed off Tarantino’s remarks during the interview, Clooney had a more direct response: “So now I’m like, all right, dude, f— off. I don’t mind giving him s—. He gave me s—.” Despite the banter, Clooney remains grateful for the opportunities he’s had, movie star label or not.
