Genesis Announces Their Comeback

On Tuesday, March 3rd, there was an official announcement that rock band Genesis will be making their comeback. This news comes after 13 years of radio silence from the band as a unit. Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks are all in on the reunion, and the rock world couldn’t be happier.

Back in January when the trio were photographed together at a basketball game in New York, sparking tons of rumors that have now been confirmed. Since their successful 2007 tour to mark their 40th anniversary, fans have been desperate for the band to reform. They first split was back in 1996 so Phil could focus on his solo career.

Phil announced his retirement in 2011 after damaging his nerves, before returning to the stage in 2016 following a back operation. Meanwhile, another former bandmate Steve Hackett is set to release his memoirs, A Genesis In My Bed, this July.

Last June, Phil, 69, and Mike, 69, performed together at a concert in Berlin. It came during six live dates where Mike’s other project, Mike and the Mechanics, toured with Phil during his Still Not Dead Yet tour.

At the end of last year, Phil teased the possibility of a reunion, hinting: “We remain close friends, so you never know…” And here we are.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of their album, Duke, released in 1980.
