Here are your Monday morning music headlines…
Gene Simmons did not expect the firestorm of passion and outrage last week after making a comment about the death of music icon Prince. Gene basically said Prince’s passing was ‘pathetic,’ suggesting that Prince brought it on to himself with drug abuse and overdose. The plot thickened as fellow KISS member Paul Stanley ‘apologized’ on Gene’s behalf, then Gene slammed Paul for his betrayal.
Jehovah’s Witnesses in suburban Minneapolis held a private ceremony for the late Prince, while the toxicology report is due out this week on the cause of death, results from his blood work, and possible reasons for his early demise.
“Killing Me Softly” singer Roberta Flack fell a while ago, with the result of her cancelling her summer tour dates until she feels better. The real news with Roberta is that while moving some boxes in her home, she unearthed tapes and recordings that she had forgotten about including a haunting “Bridge Over Trouble Water” rendition that can be hear on her web site.
Birthdays this week include Janet Jackson, George Strait, Sam Smith, Rachel Platten, and Cher.
