In 1972, the time Disco was beginning to take hold of the country like a bad virus, four lads from the UK known as Foghat started their musical journey with an album called “Foghat” releasing the old blues remake hit “I Just Want to Make Love to You” (Willie Dixon). The band enjoyed success for nearly a decade before booze and drugs pushed them into rehab. What were their best LPs?
“Fool from the City” from 1975 still ranks as one of the best rock albums of the decade, showcasing hits like “Fool for the City” and “Slow Ride.” Rod ‘The Bottle’ Price proved that the slide was here to stay in rock.
“Foghat Live” from 1977 was wildly received by FM radios as the genre was searching for rock that would displace disco in the charts. Although there are only six songs on the entire album, the 8:36 worth of “I Just Want to Make Love to You” was played a million times on radio and college keggers across this great nation.
Foghat’s debut self-entitled album “Foghat” remains the reason we love the band, filled with hit after hit, and their cover of the Chuck Berry smash “Maybelline.”
