London has been the birthplace for many legendary rock bands, none more rocking than the group “Foghat.” The band originally included Dave Peverett (Lonesome Dave) on guitar and vocals, Tony Stevens on bass, with Roger Earl on drums. What made Foghat different is the slide guitar affect, at that time not a familiar sound. In December of that year Rod Price completed the lineup. Here are three of their most recognizable tunes…
In 1975 the single “Slow Ride” was released for radio play, oddly enough FM and AM stations played the song in spite of its length (8:45 album, then chopped down to 3:48 single). The tune came from the ‘Fool for the City’ album, reaching $45 on the VH! Best Rock Songs of All Time list.
“I Just Want to Make Love to You” is the classic Muddy Waters tune from years gone by, resurrected in grand style by the group. The song did hit the Billboard Top 100, but surprisingly the tune was number five on the R&B Top charts as well.
“Fool for the City” was somewhat of a departure from the typical band singles in that it had complete structure and was short enough for Top 40 airplay (4:33) The single came from the album of the same name and helped propel that album to platinum status.
