The Atlanta Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson broke the NFL record for the most kickoff-return touchdowns in a career on Sunday with a 103 yard return against the Chicago Bears. The veteran accomplished the feat during the second quarter and set a new NFL record of nine career kickoff returns for a touchdown, with Josh Cribbs and Leon Washington’s previous record of eight.
Patterson caught the ball in the end zone and took it back for 103 yards to get back in reach of the Chicago Bears who were leading 17-7 at the time with a little bit over four minutes left remaining in the half. It immediately followed his fumble that set up a Chicago touchdown.
The Falcons were able to score 17 unanswered points prior to the Bears’ David Montgomery scoring a two yard rushing touchdown halfway through the third quarter to tie the game 24-24. The Falcons kicker, Younghoe Koo kicked a 53 yard field goal with less than two minutes left in the game for a win over the Chicago Bears, 27-24.
