Ethiopian Belahy Tilahun wins São Paulo marathon

Ethiopian athlete Belay Tilahun won Saint Silvester men’s road race in São Paulo, with 45 minutes and five seconds.

In the women’s competition, the winner was Kenyan, Sandrafelis Tuei, with 50 minutes and two seconds.

Brazilian runners came eighth in both races. Giovani dos Santos did 46 minutes and 38 seconds, and Jenifer Nascimento Silva 54 minutes and five seconds.

In addition to Brazilians, 30 contestants from right countries took part in the competition: Ethiopia, Bahrain, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Argentina, Ecuador, and Bolivia.

The race is 15 km long, and goes through a number of major landmarks in São Paulo, with its starting and finishing point on Paulista Avenue, the city’s financial center. The competition is traditionally held on December 31 every year, and drew 30 thousand participants in 2018.
