Elton John Hopes to Boost Britney Spears Confidence With Latest Duet

According to billboard.com, Elton John did an interview with The Guardian about teaming up with Britney Spears and why supporting her is important to him. John revealed that the collaboration was actually his husband, David Furnish’s idea. John said he replied to his husband, “I said, ‘That’s a pretty amazing idea.’ She hadn’t done anything for so long. I’d been following what’s been happening to her for a long time.” He continued to say that, “You forget she was the biggest star in the whole world at that time,” John says. “And to see what happened to her makes me so angry. What happened to her shouldn’t have happened to anybody.” Spears went to the studio with Grammy-winning producer Watt in order to record new vocals for the duet that includes lyrics from John’s “Tiny Dancer” and “The One.” Elton John also said that, “She’s been away so long – there’s a lot of fear there because she’s been betrayed so many times and she hasn’t really been in the public eye officially for so long,”

Elton John hopes that “Hold Me Closer” is yet another success on the charts, like “Cold Heart” that came before it, so that Britney can get some love from pop fans. He went on to say that, “I’m so excited to be able to do it with her because if it is a big hit, and I think it may be, it will give her so much more confidence than she’s got already and she will realize that people actually love her and care for her and want her to be happy,”
