Ellen DeGeneres Cancels Tour Dates Amidst Farewell Tour and Industry Exit

Ellen DeGeneres has canceled several upcoming tour stops following her recent declaration to step away from the public eye. This announcement comes two years after her talk show was canceled amid allegations of toxic behavior on set.

DeGeneres unexpectedly canceled shows in Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and Dallas, shortly after telling a stand-up audience, “this is the last time you’re going to see me,” as reported by NBC’s Chicago affiliate.

Her current tour, titled “Ellen’s Last Stand… Up,” began in April and marked her first series of live performances since 2019. She also has plans to release a Netflix comedy special in the coming months.

During a recent performance in Santa Rosa, California, DeGeneres candidly told the audience, “I was kicked out of show business for being mean,” and declared, “After my Netflix special, I’m done.” This statement alludes to the fallout from a 2020 BuzzFeed report accusing her of racism and intimidation on set. DeGeneres also reflected on her earlier career struggles, referencing the backlash she faced after coming out as a lesbian in the 1990s.

Despite these cancellations, DeGeneres still has 14 tour dates scheduled through August, including sold-out shows in Chicago, Minneapolis, and Durham, North Carolina.

DeGeneres humorously acknowledged her rocky journey in the industry, saying, “Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay, and mean, the triple crown.” This marks a poignant and reflective moment in her long and storied career as she prepares to take her final bow from the spotlight.
