Eddie Van Halen doesn’t want a filmmaker to finish a documentary called ‘5150 The Vault,’ a piece about the band, shot in 2006, and he’s willing to go to court to stop the film.
Yes, Eddie and filmmaker Andrew Bennett had agreed to do the project together, but it became clear to Eddie that the documentary was not a positive experience and not what he was looking for, so he stopped being a willing subject. Now Andrew Bennett is on the road to release what was shot, and Eddie is arguing that he doesn’t have his permission to release the film.
The documentary is a behind the scenes look at Eddie and his son Wolfgang in rehearsals replacing bassist Alex Van Halen his brother, but he was displeased with what he saw in dailies. In addition, Eddie didn’t want a film; rather he wanted to deliver the project on DVD or video. Add in the fact that and filmmaker Andrew Bennett claims he was never paid and releasing is a way to recoup his financial loss, and you have some series rock and roll drama.
