Ed Sheeran Takes the Stand: The Latest on His Copyright Infringement Case

British pop superstar Ed Sheeran testified for a third day in a lawsuit alleging copyright infringement over his hit song “Thinking Out Loud.” The lawsuit was filed by a company called Structured Asset Sales (SAS), which claims that Sheeran’s song copied elements of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” Sheeran has denied the allegations and stated that he had never heard the song before.

During the third day of testimony, Sheeran’s defense team called expert witness Susan Rogers, a professor of music production and engineering at the Berklee College of Music, to testify about the similarities between the two songs. Rogers played both songs and explained the differences between them, stating that they were not substantially similar.

The trial has attracted significant attention in the music industry, as it could set a precedent for future cases involving allegations of copyright infringement. The case is being closely watched by artists, music publishers, and legal experts, as it could have a significant impact on the future of music copyright law. The trial is expected to last several more days.
