Ed Sheeran and Elton John are doing their part to spread the holiday cheer with the release of a Christmas collaboration “Merry Christmas.”
The duo dropped the single last Friday, as well as a silly, nostalgic music video to go along with the festive track. The video features all things merry, from a Christmas party hosted by Sheeran and John, homages to classic holiday movie scenes or music videos, and a whole lot of feel-good cheer.
“I said to Elton,” Sheeran said of the song’s conception. “‘I don’t really want to do a Christmas song unless we’re going in. Unless it’s like sleigh bells, ding-dong— yeah, it needs to be a proper Christmas song.’”
Publishing royalties and profits from sales of “Merry Christmas” will be donated equally between the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
