Dunkin’s New Extra-Charged Coffee Comes With 20% More Caffeine Than Usual

Dunkin’ has been rolling out new menu items all year long, but their latest creation might be their most exciting yet. If you’re a “don’t talk to me unless I’ve had my coffee” person, listen up, because Dunkin’s new extra-charged coffee contains more caffeine than ever before.

Available in both iced and hot versions, Dunkin’s brew packs 20 percent more caffeine than a typical roast blend available at the chain. That extra boost of caffeine comes from green coffee extract, the brand explained in a blog post, which means the caffeine is extracted from the coffee bean before it goes through the roasting process.

In the post, Dunkin’ also explained why you may want to opt for an extra-charged beverage rather than customizing a drink with an added shot of espresso. The main reason is that adding espresso can change the flavor profile of the drink, according to Dunkin’s Senior Manager of Research and Development Heidi Curry. Plus, the new brew of coffee has the same taste that Dunkin’ fans already know and love.

To celebrate the launch of this new menu item, Dunkin’ is offering their guests a medium hot or iced extra-charged coffee for $2 through January 26 so you can start your year off with all the energy and all the good vibes. While you’re at the drive-thru window, might as well pick up some hash browns while you’re at it…and a donut, of course.
