Dr. Dre, the legendary hip-hop producer and entrepreneur, has his sights set on a new challenge: the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The Compton native, known for his groundbreaking contributions to music, recently revealed a surprising ambition—to compete in the archery event at the upcoming Olympic Games.
In a virtual interview with ET, Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Romell Young, expressed his excitement about the prospect of participating in the Olympics. “I’m trying to try out for the Olympics in 2028,” he boldly declared in a clip shared on X.
The music mogul shared that his interest in archery dates back to his youth. “I actually started playing around with archery in junior high,” Dr. Dre explained. After taking a break from the sport, his son reignited his passion by gifting him a new setup. “I have it set up in my backyard, and I practice at 90 feet,” he added, confident in his ability to meet the Olympic qualification distance of 77 feet.
Dr. Dre is eager to take on this new challenge, especially with the Olympics being hosted in his hometown of Los Angeles. “Wouldn’t it be interesting to go and win the gold medal?” he mused.
While he’s confident in his archery skills, Dr. Dre made it clear that he won’t be trying his hand at breakdancing, humorously dismissing Australia’s Rachael Gunn’s routine at the 2024 Paris Games. “It was funny, but what the f-ck,” he commented with a laugh.
As he prepares for the possibility of competing on the world stage, Dr. Dre remains unwavering in his belief: “I feel like I can do anything.”
