Can you name the greatest male rock singer of all time, or at least name your favorite? It would be hard to pinpoint America’s favorite, but we’ve just put together a list of lead singers that we believe were or are the most influential. Take a look and see how we did in compiling this list.
The most influential singers by range in rock and roll must start with Elvis from the past, and Steve Tyler of Aerosmith in modern times; both could hit the low notes if they wanted, but moved many octaves to make his millions. To go along with those two, Axl, Freddie, and Elton were the most gifted for range.
The most commercial voices by sales were Bono from U2, Elvis, Journey’s Steve Perry, Mick from the Stones, Paul McCartney, and Elton. Combined, these male voices likely sold nearly one billion records…
For the low notes, its Barry White hands down, but Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, and Johnny Cash also owned the floor.
For the high notes, Steve Tyler, Prince, Michael Jackson, Journey’s Steve Perry, Axl, Steve Winwood, and Rod Stewart could hit the highest of notes to make a song a classic.
Finally, we believe if you had only one voice to have in rock and roll, our pick would be either, Jackson Browne, Bono, Steve Perry, Bruce, or the soulful Marvin Gaye.
