Digging Into the Goo Goo Dolls

Buffalo, NY is famous for wings and harsh winters, but it’s also a city that gave the world the awesome group The Goo Goo Dolls. Original member, lead singer and guitarist John Rzeznik, on bass Robby Takac, and drummer George Tutuska began their journey in the mid-80s, selling over 25 million albums to date and releasing nearly 20 albums. Who are these guys?

Like all garage bands, the Goo Goo Dolls met while they were classmates in high school in Buffalo. Their odd name comes from a ‘True Detective’ comic book ad, selling ‘Goo Goo Dolls.’ The boys had moderate success until a horrible difference of opinions forced drummer George Tutuska out of the band, where they brought in replacement Mike Malinin to push the band to new heights.

The Goo Goo Dolls are activists and big into giving back. The band supports the charity USA Harvest with donations and free appearances, while John is the spokesperson for VH-1s ‘Save the Music’ foundation, Robbie ‘Music is Art’ foundation.
