Detroit to Honor Aretha Franklin

Sadly, Aretha Franklin is gone, leaving no will which will likely cause some confusion and legal matters with her surviving children, but we do have some feel-good news from the Motor City; Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has just announced that the popular Detroit waterfront concert venue Chene Park will bear her name.

Mayor Duggan has created and sent to the Detroit City Council for its approval, a proposal to rename the venue ‘Aretha Franklin Park.’ His thought is simple; all performers moving forward will be reminded of the significant contributions Aretha made to music and the Motor City each time they perform at the venue. The Chene Park concert venue was one of Aretha’s favorite local venues, last playing the Chene Park Amphitheater in during its 30th Anniversary in 2015.
