Dwayne Casey was the 2017-2018 Coach of the Year, so you would expect him to have job security right? Well, that wasn’t the case as he sat this offseason as a head coach looking for a job. That job has been found as he and the Detroit Pistons have agreed upon a five-year deal just this week.
Casey has done it all pretty much in the basketball world. He’s won an NCAA championship as a player, an NBA Finals as an assistant coach, has coached two different NBA teams, and has even coached in the Japanese Basketball League! He’s well versed and is coming off a season where his Toronto Raptors won the Eastern Conference. Pistons fans should be happy with the hiring of Casey for sure.
The Pistons are in an odd spot where they have no cap space but do have a good core of players. Reggie Jackson, Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond are a good starting three of five if they can stay healthy. Casey has had plenty of success in the NBA and we’ll see if he can bring Detroit back to prominence in the NBA.
