This year is a leap year, meaning there were 29 days in February. Amazingly, that time has already come and gone! Let’s leap in 2016 with a new attitude and showcase the most interesting and lesser known artist of our time with a feature we all ‘A to Z.’
Here’s the letter ‘D.’
In early 1970, Eric Clapton and Duane Allman created Derek and the Domino’s, a mostly studio group out of London. Dave Mason helped out with adding guitar tracks in the studio, but the band had only one studio album staying together for less than one year. The band was an underwhelming success with the exception of the classic song “Layla” which was picked up by progressive FM radio stations.
For the record, “Layla” is indeed about the wishful relationship Eric wanted with friend Georgie Harrison’s wife Pattie Boyd. During the studio sessions, Clapton’s friend Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, and fellow member Carl Radle all died – not a good time indeed. Jim Gordon, another original member, killed his mother with a hammer and was committed to the insane asylum. Woah..
