It has just been revealed that David Bowie is the 21st Century’s best-selling vinyl artist.
Bowie’s vinyl sales for the 2000s equated to 582,704 units, placing him ahead of The Beatles at 535,596 sales. These were the only two acts to top half a million units on the vinyl format.
According to chart analyst Alan Jones, Bowie is leading the 2020s, as well, with 134,237 sales so far. The Beatles, again closely behind, with 113,613 sales.
For the Top 10,000 vinyl sellers of 2021, specifically, Bowie actually placed third (53,181) behind both The Beatle (58,567) and Taylor Swift (56,917).
All in all, in the United States and the United Kingdom, vinyl has overtaken CD in unit sales for the first time in decades.
