Renowned comedian Dana Carvey has announced a pause from work and social media following the tragic loss of his 32-year-old son, Dex. Carvey, 68, expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support in a heartfelt message on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), acknowledging the love and compassion shared by friends, fans, and those who knew Dex.
Carvey and his wife Paula Zwagerman have been “overwhelmed” by the touching messages about Dex, who passed away from an accidental drug overdose. The couple described Dex as a multi-talented individual with a passion for music, art, filmmaking, and comedy. He was known for his ability to make life enjoyable for everyone around him and his profound love for his family, friends, and girlfriend, Kaylee.
In his message, Carvey shared, “We will heal the best we can and carry on. Our darling Dex would have wanted it that way.” The couple also extended their thoughts to others affected by addiction.
Fellow comedians and friends, like Jim Gaffigan and Kevin Nealon, shared their condolences and memories on Carvey’s posts. Dex, following in his father’s comedic footsteps, had opened for Carvey’s Netflix special and appeared in several productions.
Carvey’s decision to step back to mourn and reflect on his son’s life underscores the impact of Dex’s loss and the family’s journey toward healing.
