The Dallas Cowboys have been negotiating a long-term extension with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb for over a year, but they still haven’t reached an agreement. According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys’ current offer doesn’t meet Lamb’s expectations, falling short of the $33 million per year mark.
Lamb is reportedly seeking a contract in the range of Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, who is the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, earning $35 million annually. However, Lamb isn’t pushing to surpass Jefferson’s deal, a point Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones has acknowledged.
Despite the prolonged negotiations and the fact that Lamb hasn’t been with the team since the end of the 2023 season, team officials remain hopeful that a deal can be reached before the season kicks off on September 8.
Lamb, who played last season on a modest base salary of $2.52 million, is set to earn $17.991 million this year under his fifth-year option. Coming off a career-best season with 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, which earned him All-Pro honors, Lamb’s performance has certainly strengthened his case for a lucrative extension.
As the season opener approaches, the pressure is on for both sides to finalize the deal.
