Bruce Springsteen’s needed a song in the early days to polish off an album, so he wrote “Blinded by the Night,” which did appear on the LP, but became a monumental hit for the Manfred Mann Band. What are a few other ‘cover’ fun facts?
“Time is On My Side” by the Rolling Stones was a great song, but covered by the original Irma Thomas 60s song.
Unknown singer and songwriter Robert Hazard released a song no one payed any attention to in the 70s. Cyndi Lauper picked it up and made it a hit, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” may have been her biggest song, but it was Otis Redding that released it first.
“I Love Rock N’ Roll” by Joan Jett was another band’s song, “Black Betty” by Ram Jam was an ancient blues tune, as was “Dazed and Confused” by Led Zeppelin.
Sadly, the Kingsmen get all the credit for their only hit song “Louie Louie,” but it was Richard Berry and the Pharaohs that first recorded the song.
