“Cinderella” Shockingly Takes the Lead for Fan Favorite Oscar

This year, the Oscars are featuring a brand new category in an attempt to more directly interact with movie-lovers and viewers. The #OscarsFanFavorite category is completely driven by votes made on Twitter, and the fan-picked film will be recognized during the Academy Awards broadcast on March 27th.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Twitter to help build an engaged and excited digital audience leading up to this year’s ceremony,” says Meryl Johnson, digital marketing VP at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said in a statement. “Through these activations, social media users around the world now have more opportunities to engage with the show in real-time, find a community and be a part of the experience in ways they’ve never been able to before.”

Right now, while many anticipated the highest-grossing film of the movie season Spider-Man: No Way Home to have been way ahead in the polls, it turns out that Amazon’s Cinderella is actually leading the race.

Starring Camila Cabello, James Corden, and Billy Porter, Cinderella was not necessarily well-received. The film has a 43% on Rotten Tomatoes, a score totaled cumulatively from critic reviews. Nonetheless, it seems the most modern revisit of the classic Disney princess may be getting a nod at this year’s Oscars.
