Chrissy Teigen, the celebrated Cravings cookbook author and model, recently shared a significant update about her son Miles, 6, who has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 38-year-old mother of four expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support from her community.
“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and Team USA,” Teigen began her message. “Miles had his arm up, and so many of you reached out with the most beautiful and encouraging words. You noticed his Type 1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and support. I was, and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community.”
Teigen revealed that the diagnosis came after Miles fell ill with shigella, an intestinal infection, and was hospitalized. “A couple of weeks ago, our Miles was sick, in the hospital, with a terrible case of shigella. A lot of his friends were also sick as they went to the same camp,” she explained. “But the doctors noticed something else was off about his blood tests, which led to his diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes.”
After further testing, the family learned that Miles is in the “honeymoon period” of his condition. “Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly,” Teigen shared.
In her post, Teigen thanked her followers for their kindness, noting how much it means to Miles to know he is not alone. She also mentioned that she and her husband, John Legend, 45, have been relying on the book Year One with Type One to help navigate this new chapter.
“This post is to thank you so much for your kindness. It helps Miles so much to know so many other people are going through the same thing and he is not alone,” she concluded.
Through this challenging time, Teigen remains positive and appreciative of the support surrounding her family, proving once again the strength and resilience of their bond.
