Etty Lau Farrell, wife of Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, detailed the dramatic on-stage altercation that abruptly ended the band’s show in Boston. On her Instagram, she described the chaos that unfolded after her husband lashed out at guitarist Dave Navarro over sound issues, leading to a series of physical confrontations.
According to Etty, Perry Farrell was frustrated by the sound levels drowning out his vocals. This frustration culminated in him aggressively confronting Navarro, who remained calm. However, things escalated when bassist Eric Avery intervened, allegedly putting Perry in a headlock and punching him multiple times. Etty criticized Avery’s actions, labeling them as “cheap shots.”
Videos circulating online show Perry charging at Navarro, leading to a scuffle as stage lights dimmed. Crew members and Avery tackled Farrell to prevent further escalation. The concert was cut short, and Perry was pulled offstage in a frenzy.
Etty explained that Perry had been dealing with tinnitus and a sore throat, which amplified his frustration with the sound issues. She noted his subsequent emotional breakdown after the altercation.
This was the most dramatic incident of the tour, though prior shows hinted at rising tensions. Despite the turmoil, some concerts have been incident-free and well-received by fans.
