Cardi B Opens Up About Avoiding Personal Topics in Her New Music

In a candid recent interview, Cardi B shared her fears about addressing personal matters in her music. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper explained that while she wants to discuss the life changes she’s experienced over the past few years, she hesitates due to the potential backlash and exploitation of her vulnerabilities.

“I really want to talk about the life changes that I’ve been dealing with the past six, seven years,” Cardi revealed. “But then it’s just like, I feel like people don’t deserve to know because people use my pain against me.”

Cardi’s personal life has frequently been thrust into the spotlight. In December 2023, she publicly discussed her turbulent relationship with fellow rapper Offset during Instagram Live streams, revealing they had split. Despite their on-again-off-again status, the couple, who share two children, were recently seen holding hands at a post-Met Gala party.

Cardi’s openness about her struggles has sometimes led to harsh criticism, particularly from fans of her rival, Nicki Minaj. After Cardi’s December revelations, Minaj posted a seemingly mocking meme, which escalated tensions between their fanbases.

“I’m a lonely sufferer,” Cardi admitted, highlighting her preference for privacy. She described how time away from social media brought her peace but acknowledged she can’t completely withdraw from public life. “I don’t ever want my daughter or my son to ever give up on something because they can’t take the pressure of what people say about them.”

Cardi’s reluctance to share personal details extends to her political views. Despite previously interviewing prominent politicians like Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, she now avoids discussing politics due to fear of backlash.

Earlier this year, Cardi expressed her apprehension about releasing new music. “I just feel like I lost myself with everything… a lot of people just be like, you know, ‘She’s afraid to drop an album,'” she said. Her only official single in 2023 was “Bongos” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, and she confirmed her sophomore album’s release has been delayed.

“I love talking about politics and everything,” Cardi shared. “I don’t even want to talk about it anymore because I’m just so afraid of just getting dragged every single f—ing day. Like, I’m tired.”

Cardi B’s honesty about her struggles with public scrutiny offers a glimpse into the challenges faced by artists in the spotlight, as she continues to navigate her career with resilience and determination.
