Calumet Girls Receive Honors at Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge

By making use of a 3D printed drone, a smoke detector, and a camera, two girls figured out a way for firefighters to limit the damages caused by a fire. The two Calumet girls have outperformed over 20 teams throughout the state of Michigan, in an event called “Michigan Girls Future Flight Challenge”. Jordan and Kristin showed that they had the best idea for the challenge after brainstorming with Dr. Labeau, Calumet Electronic’s CTO who had this to say about the young ladies. “Jordan and Kristen are exactly the type of energetic and strategic thinkers that are needed for the future of the aerospace industry”. The girls developed a prototype that would detect fires, alert firefighters, and allow them to respond to limit the amount of fire damage. Along with using a 3D printed drone, smoke detector, and camera, the girls had to create marketing materials and a business plan alongside their invention so that they could present a 15 page slide about their project to a panel of judges. Jordan and Kristen were decided as having the best idea amongst the teams of girls. Dr. LaBeau had this to say about the young team, “It’s impressive that these girls competed against so many teams from across the entire state and won, representing their school, community, and the entire Upper Peninsula. I am so proud of them, and I know they both have bright futures ahead.”
