After a long and arduous battle in court, Britney Spears has finally been declared free of her 13-year conservatorship. The approval of termination was made official by Los Angeles County judge Brenda Penny on November 12th.
“The court finds and determines that the conservatorship of the person and the estate is no longer required,” Judge Penny said. “Therefore, effective today, the conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears… is hereby terminated.”
The fight for her freedom of estate and person has been ongoing for years and was especially scrutinous over the summer. Britney herself spoke against her father Jamie Spears’ abusive conservatorship several times during the process.
“Ma’am, my dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a huge role in punishing me — ma’am, they should be in jail,” she told the court back in June. “I want changes going forward. I deserve changes.”
Now, moving forward, the singer–who is two months engaged and was seen driving her Mercedes-Benz in celebration just yesterday–has endless opportunities on the horizon.
