Bottega Veneta has announced the second iteration of its commitment to supporting international ‘bottegas’ for the holidays. In the spirit of the season, the fashion house wants to pay homage to various bottegas through its website, advertising, newsletters, store windows, as well as a custom display at Bergdorf Goodman in New York.
As their website states, “‘Bottega’ translates in essence to ‘workshop’ – a producer of small runs of handmade products realized with excellent attention to craftsmanship and creativity. As one of the world’s most visible bottegas, Bottega Veneta is committed to supporting other bottegas from around the world. For the second consecutive year, Bottega Veneta passes along its global visibility to fourteen bottegas. Last year, Bottega Veneta featured bottegas exclusively from Italy. This year, the project features bottegas from around the world with practices and products inspired by Italian culture. This December, the Bottega Veneta website, advertising, newsletters, and store windows pay homage to bottegas and celebrate the Italian way of life.”
This year, BV has really focused in on ten unique artisan shops from Japan, China, New York, Vermont, and of course, Italy. In one featured bottega, Yoshiaki Imamura creates exquisitely crafted espresso cups inspired by those made for the traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. The small cups have no handle, but a thick textured surface, perfect for cradling your steaming espresso and letting the aroma take you away. Another featured bottega, Je & Jo Pasta, is run by the Yu’s, a Chinese family who spent time in Italy before opening an Italian restaurant called Casa Mia in Shanghai. The Yu’s children, Jenny and Jody, started their like-minded business, Je & Jo, making traditional fresh Italian pastas. And from right here in the U.S. but flavored by Italia, Settepani Bakery was founded in 1992 by Italian chef Nino Settepani in Brooklyn. The bakery’s specialty are the “Nostalgia Cookies” from Nino’s hometown of Ventimiglia di Sicilia, but they also produce other traditional pastries, desserts, and their year-round Panettone.
You can see (and order from the links provided) all of the featured bottegas on the Bottega Venetta site.
