Boston – A Band That Should Be in the Hall

The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class was announced last month with Pearl Jam, ELO, Journey, Tupac Shakur, Joan Baez and Yes all being admitted. Nile Rogers of Chic received a special award for musical excellence.

The band Boston is not yet in the Hall, but here are the most excellent reasons they should be…

Boston’s debut album blew away the music industry; no cliff notes or gaudy self serving band pics. It was straight up rock and roll, and the beginning of the ‘corporate rock’ genre. The self-entitled LP sold over 16 million, the band a career total of 100 million plus.

Founder Tom Scholtz was an MIT grad, not your typical rocker. Tom has invented a number of rock accessories, including the Rockman amp. The late Brad Delp changed the way rock viewed lead singers. In addition, the construction of the songs was both innovative and commercial viable.

Lead singer Brad Delp died at his own hands in 2007, but the band marches on these days.
