Bob Seger is still alive and kicking and on the road as we speak. 2016 has been a great year for Bob, a memoir, new album, and SRO at live dates demonstrate the power of rock and the durability of one of rock’s greatest ambassadors.
The late Glenn Frey played guitar on Bob’s first big single “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man,” which hit number one in Detroit and made it to the top 20 across the USA.
Kenny Rogers’ and Sheena Easton had a big hit with Bob’s “We’ve Got Tonight.”
“Old Time Rock and Roll” was ranked as the number one song of “Songs of the Century” in 2001, and is often the most played tune on America’s jukeboxes depending on what research you look at.
“Shakedown” which was co-written by Seger, was originally intended to be recorded by Glenn Frey for the “Beverly Hills Cop II” soundtrack. Glenn suddenly lost his voice as they were about to record the song, so he asked Bob to sing it. Too bad for Glenn as the song received an Oscar nomination in the ‘Best Original Song’ category.
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder proclaimed May 28, 2011 ‘Bob Seger Day’ which thrilled the 71 year old Michigan native.
