Beyoncé is Removing Offensive ‘Renaissance’ Lyric After Facing Ableist Backlash

According to Variety.com, Beyoncé’s latest album, Renaissance, has a song called Heated, that has many listeners angry on social media. The song includes the word “spaz” on a verse where Beyonce sings: “Spazzin’ on that ass, spazz on that ass.” The word “spastic” is used in the medical field to refer to a disability that makes it hard for a person to move their muscles. According to a statement made by Beyoncé’s team “The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced.” This incident follows Lizzo’s decision to remove the same word from her own song where Lizzo sang, “Hold my bag, bitch, hold my bag/ Do you see this shit? I’m a spaz.” Beyoncé also had problems with her album Renaissance being leaked online just two days prior to its official release date. The album is now available for purchase.
