Bedrooms are for Luxury

For 2019, one of the biggest home design trends is to luxe up your bedroom. And why not? The bedroom should be your oasis, a place where you can have sweet dreams nestled beneath sumptuous fabrics, especially now that daylight savings time wants to rob you of your precious z’s.

Gone are the minimalist headboards and stark modern lines. They’ve been replaced with upholstered, especially tufted, headboards in luxurious textiles like silk, satin and especially velvet in colors from silver and pewter to teal and lavender.

“Beds are going to be more womb-like. There are so many things going on in the world, and we desire to feel nurtured and protected when we are sleeping and/or relaxing. Lots of upholstered headboards and footboards will be sheathed in comfortable textiles that feel like a warm hug,” says interior designer Joy Moyler.

The trend extends to the accent pieces like retro and ornate light fixtures and antique wood bedside tables. Velvet or faux fur pillows, throws and even area rugs give a cozy feel on bare feet. Get on board with the wallpaper trend and go decadent with damask, woven fabrics or floral designs. Carve out a cozy reading corner with an overstuffed chair and ottoman.

So wrap yourself in luxury this year and get ready to sleep like a baby.
