Anniversary of 2Pac’s Release of Me Against the World

Just last week we discussed a very emotional moment in hip hop history when discussing the anniversary of Notorious B.I.G’s murder. Well, today we talk about his rival and another anniversary – the 21-year anniversary of 2Pac releasing “Me Against the World.”

The release happened on March 14, 1995 and would be the first album to ever hit number one on Billboard’s 200 while the artist was imprisoned. That’s right. 2Pac was in prison at the time of the release and would debut on the Billboard 200 chart at number one.

A few of the hits on the album included “So Many Tears” and “Temptations,” but no hit was bigger than “Dear Mama.” That single would peak at number one on Hot Rap Singles chart while reaching number nine on Billboard’s Hot 100.

While the album didn’t take home any Grammys, it was nominated for two.
