One of the richest, sexist and dominant voices to come out of the Motor City, is the voice of NITA Baker, who is on the road in her ‘farewell tour’ this summer and fall.
At last night’s BET Awards, this Detroit legend was honored for her lifelong accomplishments in music, being handed the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ during the live broadcast. It’s hard to believe that Anita Baker is 60-years-old, but she’s earned a life of luxury and reflection for her wonderful career. Anita Baker began her professional career in the early 80s, hitting number one with the incredible LP ‘Rapture.’ Here are our two favorite Anita Baker tunes…
“Sweet Love” from the ‘Rapture’ album was easily the best soul song of 1986. The song was a top five in the US on multiple charts and helped sell over eight million copies of ‘Rapture’ worldwide.
“Giving You the Best That I Got” the title track from her LP in 1988 was strong and successful, driving the album of the same name to number one on the album charts. This album earned three Grammy’s and a Soul Train Award.
