R&B Icon Anita Baker, has returned to the studio and shared a new video on Twitter on Monday, January ninth. In the minute long video, Baker taped a studio mixing console with the audio of “Unconditionally Yours,” a song teased back in 2012. She giggled at the end saying, “That’s it. We got the right frequency.”
“Unconditionally Yours” is reportedly produced by The underdogs and was meant to appear on her comeback album, Only Forever, which was originally supposed to release in 2012 and then in 2013. The first single off of the album, Lately, is a cover of Tyrese’s 1999 song, and broke a debut record on R&B Radio and ended up going number one on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay Chart. It also had been nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
Her recent post includes “Unconditionally Yours,” shows us that she is back again. She wrote, “so many Amazing Gifts, from Ms. Sarah, Ms. Patti. Queen Aretha, and my 80s Contemporarys, to Innovators, like Missy Elliot & Lady B. SO many influence me, to keep creating my own little, Miracles of Music🎼 Gratefully, ABXO,”
In 2021, Baker gained ownership of her masters thanks to rapper Chance the Rapper, and then gave her fans the okay to once again buy her music. She also hinted at a possibility of a partnership with Rhino that will include an expansive box set along with vinyl and digital tributes.
Starting on February 11th, Baker will be headlining a tour to coincide with the 40th anniversary of her debut album, The Songstress , that released originally on May 31st, 1983. While Babyface will support the 15 city tour, that starts at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida.
