John Lennon was murdered by Mark David Chapman on December 9th, 1980. The news was broken by Howard Cosell on that night’s ‘Monday Night Football,’ to the disbelief of everyone listening. Hours before the assassination, John autographed Mark David Chapman’s 1980 Double Fantasy LP.
The morbid artifact eventually ended up in the hands of a private citizen who placed the LP up for auction, selling the first time for $150,000 in 1998. Now the album is up for auction again; experts believe the winning bid could be as high as $1.5 million dollars.
Not only does the album come with photos, it demonstrates the fingerprints of both John and Mark David Chapman.
