After more than a decade between studio albums, Alabama Shakes are officially back with a new full-length project.
The Grammy-winning band has announced that its third studio album, I Must Be Dreaming, will arrive on August 28, marking the group’s first album since the acclaimed 2015 release Sound & Color.
The announcement follows the band’s recent return to recording and performing together. Fans have already heard two songs from the upcoming album, “Another Life” and “American Dream,” with another new track, “I Feel Hope Coming,” scheduled for release later this week.
Frontwoman Brittany Howard says the album’s title captures the emotional contrast of modern life, recognizing both the uncertainty of today’s world and the moments of hope and beauty that exist alongside it.
The current lineup of Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, and bassist Zac Cockrell reunited after a surprise performance in late 2024, reigniting the creative partnership that helped establish Alabama Shakes as one of the defining rock bands of the 2010s.
In addition to revealing the album’s track list, the group has mapped out a lengthy international tour that will continue through September, giving fans their first extended opportunity in years to hear both classic favorites and brand-new material live.
With fresh music, a renewed sense of purpose, and an ambitious touring schedule, Alabama Shakes appear poised to begin an exciting new chapter after one of the longest recording breaks of their career.
