ABBA Back in the News!

It’s hard to believe that ABBA is back in the news, but boy are they making headlines; their hologram tour is set to begin, the group got together or a news conference to announce their intentions of recording a few new tunes, and now NBC has decided to jump on the ABBA train with their announcement that they will air a two-hour special show that will be all ABBA in December.

The NBC special is called ‘ABBA: Thank You for the Music, An All-Star Tribute,’ and feature today’s top stars singing ABBA songs. If you tune it you’ll hear “Take A Chance On Me,” “Dancing Queen”, “The Winner Takes It All” and “Mamma Mia”, with a few song surprises for the broadcast. You’ll also hear one of the groups new songs “I Still Have Faith In You.”

We will keep you up to date as the actual December date has yet to be released, but ABBA fans will love the show.

There may never be another decade of music like the songs that this the charts in the 60s the 80s had a style and vibe all its own reminding of the oppo and funk of the 60s. Here is our list of songs from the 80s that could have easily blended earlier years…

“Always Something There To Remind Me” by Naked Eyes had that 60s hook and additional noise behind the vocals.

“Do You Really Wanna Hurt Me” leveraged the soulful sound of Boy George and Culture Club
Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” is fabulous. Sure we could have mentioned Irene Cara’s “Flashdance (What a Feeling),” but “Maniac” is our feel-good choice. Crazy right?

“Raspberry Beret” from Prince could have easily been a Motown tune from 1967.

Two Phil Collins songs come to mind: “Take Me Home” (used in a popular Miami Vice episode) and “Invisible Touch” (okay its Genesis but still Phil).

“Tainted Love” by Soft Cell is a marvelous feels that actually riffs into “Where Did Our Love Go’ from the Supremes.
