A Musical About a Former Grammy Winner

LaDonna Adrian Gaines was born in Boston in 1948. She died on December May 17th 2012. In the middle of those two dates, she changed her name to Donna Summer, and became one of the greatest singers in the Disco era. Donna Summer earned five Grammys, six American Music Awards, and countless other distinctions. Her secret was simple; she had a beautiful voice and range and dominated the charts during the disco era while sustaining success well after Disco. How did she change the music industry? Donna was the first artist to ever have three ‘double album’ releases reach number one on the charts!

Now we hear that there will be a musical biopic about Donna, called “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” with an expected open date of Spring 2018, directed by Des McAnuff, the man who orchestrated ‘Jersey Boys’ on 42nd street.

The Broadway musical will feature all the classic chart-topping songs, from “MacArthur Park” to “Bad Girls” to “Dim All the Lights” to “Hot Stuff.”
