When Cardi B released her song “WAP,” it quickly rose to the top of the charts, but it also had people thinking…how on earth is Kidz Bop going to make this song child-friendly? The lyrics are explicit, to say the least, but one YouTuber went ahead and used the same tune to make a parody about foods like wings, pizza, and bread.
Lardi B, a YouTuber with over 154,000 subscribers, makes daily vlogs, food taste test videos, and TikTok compilations, but most popular are her videos that change the lyrics to popular songs by artists like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. When “WAP” came out on August 7, Lardi B quickly posted her parody on August 14. Her version uses the “WAP” acronym to stand for “Wings And Pizza.”
The music video shows Lardi B eating different foods with her friends and changes the original explicit lyrics. “I said you know I like to eat, 11 days a week, wings and pizza, stuff that crust with extra cheese,” she sings. “Yeah we feastin’ on some wings and pizza.”
Throughout the three-minute video, there are mentions of parmesan, red pepper flakes, reaper sauce, bread buns, cake, ice cream, pepperoni, ranch, and so much more. At the time of publication, the YouTube video has over 1.1 million views and counting, but the song has taken on a life of its own on TikTok.
Many on the app were making jokes about Kidz Bop being unable to rewrite the lyrics, including one user who referenced a story from The Beaverton (a satire site), that posted a story titled “Kidz Bop writer suffers nervous breakdown after failing to write kid-friendly version of ‘WAP. Now people on TikTok think Lardi B’s parody is the actual Kidz Bop version and are posting their reaction videos, dances, and videos staring blankly into the screen while listening to the lyrics and wondering what our world has become. So thanks, Lardi B, for this masterpiece. As for everyone else? Be prepared to have this stuck in your head for days..'”
